Employee profile: Conor Parry – Sales Development Manager

Job Role: Sales Development Manager

Time with the company: 4 months

What attracted you to Salt Communications?

I’ve known Salt Communications for a number of years having worked with John Bailie and Joe Boyle while I was at my previous company. I was always struck by the sophistication of the product and the fantastic company culture. The opportunity that exists in the market for Salt is huge and I hope to help the team capitalise on this and turn Salt into the industry standard across a number of business verticals.

When does your current role entail at Salt Communications?

I am in charge of finding new customers, managing the sales cycle, and then fostering the relationship once onboarded. I also spend a lot of time travelling and attending conferences and meetings where I get to introduce people to Salt and the problems we help companies and organisations solve.

What has challenged you within the industry?

It can be difficult to explain the nature of the problem that we are solving. The conversation often starts with “what is wrong with WhatsApp/Teams/Slack, etc?” and we have to explain the problems with these consumer products and how we differentiate ourselves. Once the person understands risks associated with using these products and the benefits of a secure enterprise communications solution, the conversation can often move quickly. Additionally, selling to law firms has always been difficult. The legal tech community is helping to accelerate tech adoption across firms but it remains a challenge; one that is worth fighting to overcome.

What is the best part of your job at Salt Communications?

I thoroughly enjoy getting to speak to potential customers and partners every day, working towards achieving the objective of new customers for Salt. I also love to travel to conferences where we can showcase our product in a booth and talk to people face to face, learning about their problems and how we can work together towards a solution.

What advice would you give to others starting out in their career in the cybersecurity industry?

Always be curious. You will not know everything on Day 1 and nor should you. You should always ask questions and be a sponge – continuously absorbing and understanding more information.
