DSEI 2023 recap: Unpacking the event’s highlights

As a team we get up to a lot throughout the year from travelling the world, attending conferences and connecting with an array of different cultures. It is always great to share a bit more of our world, and today, we are excited to take a delve into our journey from last week when we exhibited at the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) 2023 as part of the Invest Northern Ireland delegation. This biennial gathering, held in the ExCel London, has long been a cornerstone for those in the defence and security industries, and this year’s conference did not disappoint. Connecting a massive worldwide network between governments, national armed forces, thought leaders, and the defence and security supply chain.

Global Representation

One of the first things that struck Salt Communications about DSEI 2023 was the global representation. With attendees from over sixty four countries, it was a truly international affair. The diversity of perspectives and innovations showcased here was nothing short of astounding. From established military powers to emerging players, the world’s defence and security communities gathered under one roof.

Salt Communications were alongside local Northern Irish companies as part of the Invest Northern Ireland delegation.

Cutting-Edge Technologies

Now, let’s talk about the real star of the show: the innovation. The exhibition halls were brimming with cutting-edge technologies that left our seasoned team very impressed. Unmanned systems, artificial intelligence, cyber defence solutions, and advanced weaponry were just some of the highlights. It was evident that the future of defence and security was being shaped right before our eyes and we left with an even stronger vision of the UK’s defence industry.

Cybersecurity in Focus

In this digital age, cybersecurity took centre stage at DSEI 2023. The increase in cyber threats has been a growing concern worldwide for many years now, and the event dedicated significant space to discussions, demonstrations, and solutions in this critical area. It was reassuring to see the collaboration between public and private sectors working towards a more secure digital world.

Networking and Collaboration

Beyond the technology and trends, DSEI 2023 provided an exceptional platform for networking and collaboration. The captivating encounters, insightful conversations, and partnerships forged here will undoubtedly shape what lies ahead for the security industry.

Members of the Salt Communication’s team speaking with Avril Jolliffe (Director General of Industry, Trade and Economic Security at the UK Ministry of Defence).

Members of the senior team met with many interesting people such as Gareth Davies (Permanent Secretary of the Department for Business and Trade), Maria Eagle (The Labour Party Shadow Minister for Procurement), Avril Jolliffe (Director General of Industry, Trade and Economic Security at the UK Ministry of Defence) and enjoyed a drinks reception with H. E. Eitvydas Bajarunas (Lithuanian Ambassador to the UK).

Final Thoughts

As we reflect on DSEI 2023, we’re reminded of the ever-evolving nature of defence and security. The challenges we face are constantly changing, and this event showcased the resilience and adaptability of those tasked with keeping our nation safe. It was an enlightening and invigorating experience that left the team with a sense of optimism for the future of global security.

DSEI provided a fantastic opportunity to connect with important individuals in the defence and security sector, engaging in detailed conversations about the need for secure communications. We spoke with a large number of people who expressed concern at the use of consumer messaging applications in their organisations and understood a secure alternative was needed. Organisations around the world should never compromise their information security; particularly when they work in these sectors.“ said Sales Development Manager, Conor Parry.

We hope you’ve enjoyed this recap of DSEI 2023 as much as we’ve enjoyed sharing it with you. As we look ahead, one thing is certain: the defence and security landscape will continue to evolve, and events like these will play a pivotal role in shaping that evolution. Until next time, stay secure and stay informed!
